Default dealer is making a fake rubi.

before i get yelled at...i dnt have any against any saharas, or X's. i know that they can be just as capable as a rubicon.

but i dnt think the dealer should be allowed to do this because when somebody that knows nothing about jeeps goes to buy it there going to get really screwed.

it was at avondale jeep, i went there cause i got a free oil change when i bought mine. i was walking around and i saw a lifted 4dr and i walked over to look. it had a 3inch teraflex and 35inch tiers.

it had a big X on it, and rubicon stickers on the hood. i asked the salesman and he told me they converted it to a rubi.

i got under it and looked and it had the d44 rear with locker, but the left the stock d30 up front and no e-disco sway bar.

i was shocked at them doing that cause sombody is going to walk in there and belive that, think there getting a rubi for slightly cheaper.

They can pretty much modify it as they see fit (within reason). But if they try to pass it off as a Rubi without notifying the customer that it is modified I believe that will be illegal.

I have an X and love it. When i get my next Fiat/Jeep i will probably look at the Rubicon. I too would be really pissed if I unknowingly bought a dealer converted unit, but i guess they can do what ever they want.

hmm, maybe a used car dealer could get away with it. Caveat emptor, ya know?

But I think a Dealer is asking for trouble if they try to pull off selling a new, modded-up X as a Rubi. Unless it is spot on complete.

what a world

If it has a "big X" on it, then the dealer clearly isn't trying to pass it off as a Rubicon. Also, on the manufacturer window sticker it will show it is an X and next to the mfr sticker, there should be another sticker indicating dealer upgrades with a separate price and at the bottom of that sticker will show the new total price for the vehicle. Also, by law, the dealer can't put Rubicon stickers on it so I'm sure it didn't have Rubicon on the hood. If someone walks into the dealer and buys that Jeep thinking he/ she is buying "a slightly cheaper" Rubicon, then that person shouldn't be shopping for vehicles alone because they are obviously too stupid to make a large purchase. Many dealers do this to all types of vehicles to make extra money. A big "dealer upgrade" on cars (not Jeep Wranglers) is pin striping. Another big one is on luxury cars - "the gold package" where they put a chemical on the emblems, that turns all the chrome to a gold color. The most obvious "dealer upgrade" for the Jeep is a lift and/ or bigger tires.

Seems like they are trying to pass it off as a Rubicon. If I knew NOTHING about vehicles and I walked into a dealership and bought a Jeep that said Rubicon on it BRAND NEW. I would expect it to be a Rubicon.

If not it should be. It's one thing for an individual to try to pull a shenanigan like this, but quite different for an OEM dealer to do so. Definitely a no-no in my book.

Well, OP already stated that it has Rubi decals on the hood. And your standard would seem to be that the shopper must be quite well-informed to pick up on the fact that the item is not what it's being presented as. Whatever the seller can con the buyer out of is fair game, right? Sorry, not in my book. I have a certain expectation of honesty on the part of the seller. That doesn't always hold true, but it's the seller that is in the wrong when that seller actively engages in trickery, not the buyer for expecting an honest seller.
