I'd vote to remove them. What is the point of having a d ring if you can't take them off for recovery? If you can't remove them its basically just a useless chunk of metal hanging off your bumper. Might as well just throw them away. Moreover, if you ever DO need them, your screwed cause you welded them on and you look like an idiot on the trail... just my thoughts.

Make a chain out of D rings, so it is 100% customizable and weld some of them. Maybe every 7th one. Lol

How about weld them on and then coat them in a fast acting strong adhesive? Kind of like gluing a coin to the ground and video taping it. Better yet, put a video camera with an isolated battery so you can get footage of them trying to remove them.
