I would like to cut my 5-foot hi-lift of about 6 inches

Do you think i can do it with only a metal hand saw?

Which end would you like to trim, the bottom ?

If you try it, you will know in about in 5 seconds, if it is highly tempered or not.
That will dictate how many hack saws and biceps it will require.

I would use a pneumatic cut-off tool (because I own one) or a metal-cutting band saw (If I had one. LOL.).

Hack saw or ripsaw(w/oil) if thats all you have. A cut-off wheel will work if you have access to air. I cut the top off a beer keg with about 10 dremel cut-off wheels. If you cut the bottom make sure you cut it straight as you can.
