It did before the '07 NOx standards killed it off 
. Hence the start of the blutech engines that will -hopefully- be showing up in cars anytime in the States.
Personally I think it is the stupid f-ing environmentalist politicians who use "scientists" who fabricate data to push their views on everyone else (cough cough Al Gore and Obama) deciding that they just hate SUVs and Jeeps nomatter what. So they pass emissions standards to keep diesels out of the light duty U.S. market to make trucks and SUVs continue to get less than spectacular fuel economy. This way they can continue to attack the owners as environment hating people and then pass cap and trade (already done) to jack up the price of gas as high as possible to can everyone say it with me...
Not only intimidate truck and SUV owners into getting rid of their rides, but price them out of any normal person's range.
I am a graduate student in energy engineering and I'm going to go out there and say it to everyone here even though there's the possibility that I will get professionally shredded for it. I do NOT believe in global warming (especially as severe as everyone's is saying). Not to mention doesn't it seem weird that in the 70s and 80s it was global COOLING, then it was global WARMING when nobody would listen to them, and now its global CLIMATE CHANGE so that any weird abnormalities in the climate they can blame on us people who drive Jeeps and are damn proud to do so.
Sorry I just had to vent against the stupid socialist progressive politicians that kept me away from having a sweet CRD wrangler and getting awesome fuel economy. Also I hate "scientists" that work for this administration give people like me bad names by not being impartial.
Please help me out by voting for AVERAGE Americans for office from now on and not people with an agenda to make people live only in cities, completely reliant on the government, and who expect to get paid $175,000 per year...

I'm a philosopher (who isn't
) and believe that the only way forward for us common sense folk is to take the high ground and prove that we're better for the environment when compared to the big brother approach.
