If I could afford an engine swap I would more than likely go the diesel route. Just seems like it would get better mileage than a Hemi and be better for off road. Maybe I'm missing something here?

I believe the law is that the engine has to be from the same model year of the vehicle or newer and certified for highway application, but there may be additional clauses regarding changing types of fuel.

okay, i have a jeep jk unlimited...and im here in the states...wishin i had a crd
but....could i take the 2.8 turbo diesel from a jeep liberty, and drop it in the jk?
idk if anyone has done it, if so...tell me..show me.
but i think a diesel in a jeep would be amazing and more than worth it.

if you buy one from a dealer in say ... Rome. you can fly over and pick it up at the dealer and take a vacation driving around italy for a week. by the time you have done that you will have aquired enough miles that you don't have pass any regs or pay any import fees. just drop it off at a shipping company and pick it up stateside when she arives off the boat!!
there are in fact Porsche dealers who set up the entire vacation/roadtip/shipping for you at purchase at a state-side dealer ... but for a jeep you gota do it yourself.
