Find a used one or even someone selling a new one that they've never used. Try it out and if you don't like it, sell it and get your money back.
I recently bought a soft top and love it. Even if you don't run with the top down, you can zip out all the windows, still a great way to enjoy it.

The dealership did not have any in stock at the warehouse - something about changing production lines.
Said the new 2012's will come with color matched soft tops .

Look on Craigslist or maybe wait for the Bestop Supertop NX?
I ordered the Bestop Supertop NX and it's supposed to arrive at the end of the month. My Jeep came with only the hard top. I recently bought a house that has a garage and finally took the top off since I can store it in the garage -- and now I don't want to put it on again until winter.
I know this sounds silly, but I fell in love with the Jeep all over again. To me, removing the front two freedom panels isn't nearly as much fun as driving around without the top and doors. I ordered the top because I want to have at least a little bit of protection if it starts to rain and I figured the full soft top could stay on all summer.

A soft top transforms the Jeep into a completly different vehicle IMO...I'm in Jersey too, and i run a hardtop in the winter. I hate putting it back on, but i deal with it for the colder months.
Nothing better than dropping the top in less than 2 minutes and ditching the doors
I always did wonder how the soft top held up to 20+ inches of snow
