Back when I was in High School (late 70's), they did a beer comparison and picked Schmidt beer as their top pick.

I've never paid attention to what they've said since.

Consumer Reports is a slave to foreign cars; the Yuppie Birkenstock crowd that has no juice or joy in them. They regularly ignore the "dirty little secrets" of Honda, Toyota and rate them "Best Buys". The Jeep brand and CR are oil and water ; when Jeep gets their "approval", it will have morphed into a de-nutted roller skate.

There's your (their) problem right there. They're comparing a Jeep to a car. We don't drive "cars."

It's not only CR that has a great big chubby for foreign cars...

My wifes uncles are mechanics that only work on Japanese vehicles and they hate anything that isn't Toyota or Honda... Mazda, Suzuki etc... are all junk... they practically disowned us when I bought the Wrangler, they want me to buy another boring car like my Camry.

They both drive generic Japanese cars and have no passion for cars even though they are mechanics. I don't understand them or CR for hating something that is different from what they would drive.

Below average??

CR is good for certain things, however I go elsewhere for vehicle reviews.

They used to not even look at the Toyotas and Hondas. Just gave them a pass on reputation. Toyota recently blew that gig.

This doesn't apply to automobiles but in general, CR recommends the least expensive product. But if you read the article through you can find the best product is determined. Often it gets rated second best. Just too much emphasis on price for me.
