My wife wanted a Commander REALLY bad to replace her Honda minivan. So, of course she got it - and fully loaded I might add. The engine is great, but the electronics seem to have trouble sometimes.

It has not been offroad and probably never will be offroad, but it is nice for a long road trip and mountain driving. And, as said earlier, my JK is for offroad anyway.

I dunno, but I think Jeep might be re-introducing the cherokee, even though this says it'll be a liberty.

That was interesting, but I think it'll still be called a Liberty... but in other parts of the world (UK, I believe) the Liberty IS called a Cherokee

A lot of ads/reviews refer to the Patriot as the next evolution in the Cherokee line. Styling has some similarities, but I haven't had the chance to really look at one in detail. Anyone know how they match up? I've owned two Cherokees and loved them. Was a sad day when I saw what replaced them.

The Liberty in Europe is still called the Cherokee.

yes in-deed the euro version of the liberty is called the cherokee, it along with the grand cherokee and cherokees of the mid 90's to the present are all powered by that venerable CRD turbo diesel. and the new liberty looks to share some qualitys of the ole' chero and the dodge nitro

Personally, i'm a wrangler man, and being that i can only have one car for now, JK it is and i love it. But, i think the commander is pretty cool, and while you're entitled to your opinion, i don't see the H3 wannabe in it, especially since it came out before the H3... The commanders would prolly do ok on trails, except for there size (just meaning that some of the trails i ride on get pretty tight, and it simply may not fit... although my 4dr JK might not either, i've only ever taken my TJ through it), that would hold them back, and the fact that they're too "nice" to want to scratch and bang em up and all. A wrangler however, bring it on, its not a scratch on a Wrangler, its custom pinstriping. I like the commander for the seven seater idea, even though that third row is a bit awkward. One day i'd like to have a commander with the Hemi, not to wheel with it, thats what the JK is for, but to supercharge it, grab six friends and go race little punks in there 4 cyl, 90 horsepower hondas with fatty pipes on them, and let them see what real muscle looks like... of course i'd also like to drop a hemi in the JK and do the same with four friends and 37" tires, lol. No offense if you drive a honda, or soup yours up, i just get really irritated when people have something like an 87 honda crx with bondo and primer all over it, no rims, no hubcabs, no engine or performance mods whatsoever, and put a cherry bomb and a huge wing on it and think its cool... at the end of the day, its still an 87 crx with no engine mods, bondo, primer etc etc. Anyway, sorry for the rant,

Well as for the Commander I think its LOOKS good. And I don't know enough about them to vouch for capability. But as for their size on the trails, what about the full-size Wagoneers and J10 pickups. Those were fullsize and wheeled great, if that was what you wanted to do. There is different terrain for different vehicles I guess. For instance the CJ5 was at its best in the woods ect.

But I think DCX is retarded period. I almost wish I hadn't bought my JK and restored a CJ or just keep my YJ and bought something a little better on fuel and mileage to drive to work everyday.

But I still love my JK and am quickly paying it down due to all the friggin OT I am getting...once its paid for and the warranty runs out, here comes the MODS! woohoo.

Just my opinions, good thread btw.

This is all interesting to me, because I drive around and see tons of Jeep commanders everywhere I go. More Jeep commanders then I see cherokee's or grand cherokee's. Maybe thats because Chryslers world headquarters is like 30 minutes south of me.
