Clunking into neutral out of first gear during acceleration?
I bought a 2009 Jeep Wrangler, 6 speed back in October. It only had 72000 miles on it and in great condition, about a month later I had to have the clutch replaced after breaking down on the side of the highway. Ever since we had it back from the clutch replacement it rattles when pressing down the clutch. The worst part is when I'm at a complete stop about to accelerate at stop lights or any intersection in first, it automatically clunks out back into neutral on it's own, leaving me in the middle of the road. I don't want to bring it back to the dealership that we bought it and replaced the clutch, due to a bad experience.. Nissan stated it was my O2 sensor that needed replaced, which was a piece they were charging another $500 to replace (something we found online and a mechanic to install it for $20)The engine lights been on ever since but nothing shows up other than a heating problem when we connect it to an on board diagnostic reader. I just want to feel safe driving my tank around like I did when I first bought it, please if you know anything I'd love to hear some feedback!

Popping out of gear is not unusual for these trucks, unfortunately. The rattle could be the throwout bearing. I replaced mine along with everything else and the rattle didn't stay gone long. On to your o2 sensor- the jeep only likes what it came with. The Bosch brand will almost certainly cause issues. I also replaced an o2 sensor with the clutch install (bad sensor) and the NGK sensor works as advertised right out of the box.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but these are 2 issues that I had and the solutions. Just fyi I have a 2010 4dr unlimited automatic ~110k mi
----------
Issue #1 - Had trouble accelerating faster than 50-60mph. I could literally push the pedal to the floor and nothing. After maybe 2 mins of trying to push it it would finally kick in but it was very slow to get up to speed.
Solution #1 - Spark plugs and wires needed to be replaced.
----------
Issue #2 - Maybe in March or so I noticed that when coming out of a stop, it seemed like the vehicle would lose power almost? I would push on the gas but the acceleration would cut out for about 10-20 secs, rmp would shoot up but I wouldn't be going anywhere, then something would kick back in and the vehicle would move forward again. This didn't happen often, and only seemed like it took place within the first 5 mins of the vehicle running, but then in September it started happening almost every time I would turn the vehicle on and would last for up to 30 secs. It happened one time when I was in reverse and I realized that it was going into neutral somehow even though I had not shifted into that gear. Finally asked a family friend if they knew about anything like this and they suggested either getting the transmission looked at or something about a torque converter.
Solution #2 - The guys at the shop I take it to said that the oil pan for the transmission fluid had rusted out and had a hole, so it was losing fluid that way (apparently not even registering on the dip stick it was so low). They said that the condensation that forms from running the ac in summer/heat in winter was dripping directly onto the pan. They aren't sure that the condensation is the main cause of the rusting but that it didn't help. Apparently this is a semi common issue with fords and gmc. So that got replaced along with the filter and entirety of the transmission fluid lines. Apparently all of the fluid lines had started corroding and rusting as well.
----------
Luckily for me the issue was with the transmission fluid and lines, not the actual transmission. To get everything replaced cost about $1k, but it's cheaper than having the transmission replaced, and I would have had to go to a specialty shop or the dealership for that.
I also tried looking around different forums to see if anyone else was experiencing what I did and ran into a lot of people having issues going into limp mode. This is NOT what I was experiencing as my vehicle was coming out of a complete stop/under 10mph, and from my understanding limp mode happens around 30mph.
I know this thread is 4 years old now but I hope this helps anyone coming here trying to look for solutions.
