Default Cleaning black fenders & bumpers

Just wanted to let everyone know that those melamine sponges (Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, etc.) do an awesome job of getting mud stains off of the black plastic parts. I had tried everything from soap and water to concentrated white wall wash, all with an aggressive scrub brush, and the mud was winning. These actually work pretty well at leaving the fenders clean so you can apply a protectant of your choice. FWIW, I used the grocery store brand version, and it worked just as well, and was a lot cheaper.

Just wanted to let folks know.

Appreciate the info as well.

BTW, I bought a bottle of Meguires black restore today, supposedly designed for plastic bumpers, etc. It did make the bumpers look a little better, but what it really shined on are the stock Rubi rock-rails. Mine were looking like butt......and they look brand new after trying the Meguires black restore this afternoon.

No problem, glad to share.

I should probably add though, that you still have to use a bit of elbow grease, and you still can't tell if you got it all until the plastic gets dry (the dirt is damn near invisible while the fenders are wet), but the stains came off much much easier with the melamine sponge and water than it did with strong chemicals and brushes. One sponge was exactly big enough to get all of my black plastic clean.

I heard that stuff turns white when it rains.

I've been using Mother's Back to Black on them as a protectant, but will probably order some 303 over the net. No one here stocks it.
