Chrysler Workers Start To Walk Out
#21
its unfortunate when a topic comes up like this people insist on generalizing all unions, union members , and union leadership. I invite anyone bad mouthing all unions and its members to go to your nearest union construction site and try to hang with a union ironworker. Your experience will be very shortlived as you will be walking away draggin your arse. And the same can be said for many costruction trades. And when people say the unions protect lazy workers I will refer you to an actual fact, Of my original class of 25 apprentices Im the only one that lasted over a few weeks. (And im not special-all apprentice classes have the same attrition rate or higher) Some of us union workers are proud of what we do, how we do it, and those that did it before us. So the blanket badmouthing of the unions is gettin mighty old. The companies make good money, the workers get taken care of, the work is done right by trained people, and unlike the days before the ironworkers union there isnt a death rate directly related to the cost of the building or bridge(ie: 1 death per million dollars spent). No union is perfect as is nothing else in life (including my beloved JK) but that doent mean it doesnt serve a role. And if perfection is what you want from people or a group of people you will go through life sourly disappointed but most definately vocally opionated. Everyone most certainly has a right to an opinion and we can disagree and sometimes even be pissed, but the fact of the matter is me, my crew, my company, and my union to a man (and women) bust their butts every day and i would be amiss if i didnt defend them. Oh and Im union

will do, but i thought you said you would gladly work for 20 an hour? lol....If i accused you of being stupid i apologize, but of being ignorant...you can be ignorant and be the smartest man in the world....You are not ignorant to all things, I believe your experience with unions is limited and you obviously hate unions for whatever the reason is...no one here will ever change that, and I understand that. Just keep hateful views to yourself....and I wont go on rants about management and unfair labor practices haha.

oh hell i dont think you are stupid or ignorant. and this thread is actually tamer than the other one of the same topic. and in actually this topic and the direction it has gone is the unfortunate part considering its about people trying to get a wage and benefits to support their families with the skills, potential, and in some cases luck they have. if we supported the american worker the way we should then maybe unions wouldnt be needed. But until hard work is always rewarded with decent pay and jobs stay in the states instead of going where the labor force emulates the american workforce of the 1800's in pay and treatment then collective bargaining will always have a place. and hulk we can disagree as long as we can agree Im right Oh and this is coming from a project supervisor who does alot more for my company than I am suppose to but on the same token feels that the guys I have working for me deserve some respect and good pay and I do all I can to see they get it and at the same time my jobs always pull a sizable profit.
