Hopefully it won't last long. GM wrapped things up pretty quick. It sucks because things like this are what makes people buy foreign brands. The cost of healthcare and retirement that American companies have to put into the price of their vehicles kills the affordability, no matter how much better the quality is from 10 yrs ago.

Dude no joke....If my understanding is correct that is the pay for the pee-ons that make coffee( cause no one else can) and the trash collectors ( cause no one else can) and the sweepers (cnoec)

But if your IQ is more than 15 they pay you $40 per hour with full benefits for LIFE ( you guessed it (cause no one else can)) Ha Ha Ha

All I can say is suck it up and get back to work ....It could be worse you could be like all the rest of us hard working Damn Proud Americans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im pretty sure they are hard working americans....And it seems you dont know all that much...20 dollars an hour to make coffee, can I ask what that position is called....The American Car industry is weak due to the poor decisions the leadership has made, they have not made the appropriate changes and are behind in literally every new area. This is the UAW's fault? I doubt it.

Also, foreign car companies pay their workers much less, and thats exactly all we need...I think CEO's, baseball players, basketball players, movie stars tv stars make too much and I dont see you complaining about these high school grads with no education that make millions of dollars a year so lazy people can sit on their asses and wish they were them. We dont need to pay our hard american workers less.

A PATRIOT BUYS AMERICAN.

Furthermore, contrary to popular belief, there is no economic downside to unions...an analysis of over 27,000 union workplaces showed that sucessfully unionized establishments are nor less likely to survive than their non union counterparts. Even further, unionized workers are more productive and loyal to their companies...many of these guys have been working there 30, 40 years and you are going to insult them based on what LITTLE you know...

Just look at the airline industry, the pilots union helped save the airlines by allowing their pensions and pay to be cut to peanuts. The UAW often gets yelled at for wanting too much...20 dollars an hour to work in a factory 8 hours a day? Shit, I dont know if I would do it....thats quite a bit less than 40,000 dollars a year after taxes, and they do work hard.

So, If you don't agree with Unions, thats fine. Why? Many people have heard others talk bad about unions, blah blah blah...But educate yourself so you dont try to talk about things when you have no idea what the truth is. I can just picture you in an argument blurting out random words, trying to be louder than the guy you are yelling at so you are the only one that is heard.

IGNORANCE IS BLISS.

p.s.-no PROUD hard working american would disgrace other hardworking american and say that they have IQ's of just above 15...come on man

As a union member (from a different industry), my only gripe about the union is they also protect the no good, lazy ass, "I don't wanna give 100% until i get a raise" worker. having to work harder to make up for the ass next to you who can't be fired because he's protected by the union, and according to union only have to do X amount of work instead of putting a little more effort...

FYI - here is the link to the foxnews article referenced by Gloworm19

Per the article the are to 'return to work immediately'. I have to admit my initial depression set in this morning thinking about an even longer wait has now subsided.

I agree with how you feel...in this case the management should deal with that worker, union or no union. While the worker will get protected by the union, if he or she is not fulfilling their job requirements then they simply should be fired...the union will help represent the worker, but if the worker was in the wrong and disciplined for it, it is up to the company to make the final decision....its def a fine line in that case though, I would make it known to both the worker and union rep that it is bullshit what that lazy worker is doing, but you will find lazy assholes in non-union jobs too
