Wow big deal. A 280 hp engine for a jeep that doesnt see the full 280 till around 6k rpms. Ill take the 4.0 or 3.8 any day, it might be only 205 but its in a useful rpm range.

Woot! Excellent. I am going to buy one next year finally! although I was hoping to buy one next year regardless of the engine.
Now I just need to wait and see what this new truck is going to be.......

I don't get it, I have seen complaint after complaint about the current engine and now that a new one is confirmed everyone is against it and loves the one that was previously being complained about? Or did you guys always love the 3.8 from the get go?

Reported on allpar that 90% of the torque is available from 1,600 to 6,400. That is more torque then the peak numbers the 3.8L we currently have in the JK. If I understand engines correctly torque is what you need to get you over an obstacle, through that mud, ect. Wouldn't you rather have more useable torque than horsepower?
