Default Chrysler cancels V6 Phoenix engine program

The latest rumor is that Chrysler has cancelled it's Phoenix V6 engine program.

Word on the street is that the project has been canceled, which makes abundant sense if in fact a Chrysler merger is imminent. If a deal to merge Chrysler with either General Motors or Renault/Nissan materializes, both potential mates have V6 engines that are vastly superior to anything nestled under the hood of a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep.

Me too.... this blows

Although if GM bought Jeep this would be very good for future quality.

No doubt... but how long would it take GM to put something else in it.. along with hopefully going thru it and fixing the current issues... I have no doubt if GM got jeep it would be so much better build. I'm really looking forward to see how this ends up.

Yeah, look at the great 4X4's they make...like the trailblazer...

Their powerplants are nice, but they have nothing worthy of the trail. Even their 1 ton has IFS... Wouldn't it be nice if their engineers decide that the Wrangler would ride better with IFS...

I think I would preffer a Nissan powerplant. I know they are currently working with each other. I would be happy with Nissan quality controll and a Nissan power plant, and the rest staying the same.

I doubt they would mess with the axles. They'd throw a hotter V6 or small displacement V8, one of their trannys and let er rip.

Actually I would count on it.
Both are too weak to make it themselves.
This will go through if they can get Congress to hand them some money to help merge.

and a 3.7 six (eg 3/4 vortex v8) would be a FINE motor for the wrangler.
Heck, my daughter may not get my low milage impala if Jeep changes their bellhousing to mount the gm 3.7 with the Jeep 6 speed.
