this is a good one. you get the satisfaction of wrenching, without spending all the money on the parts being wrenched... on the downside, i think it would make me envious and i'd end up buying the parts for my own jeep as well.

Other than that, I wish I had cheap hobbies. Here's a good stay away list:
Jeeps
Motorcycles
Ice Hockey
Hunting/Fishing
Mountain Biking
Any activity in Europe
Scuba Diving
Travel
Skiing
Dogs/pets in general
I feel ya on the ice hockey I'm a goalie first player second with 2 sets of goalie gear custom pads and helmet and I have player gear and my wife plays as well all her own sets of gear and custom skates.
I would say obstacle course racing aka tough mudder, spartan and races if sorts but those are afflicting and expensive as well,

Have you just been working on the Jeep or have you been hitting the trails? Getting out on the trails is pretty cheap, just takes gas. Not overly cheap I guess...

I'm noticing a trend. Perhaps not a good idea to ask a bunch of jeep enthusiasts for frugal hobby ideas...

biking, kayaking (after the expense of buying these). All you need are trails or water...

I've recently tried my hand at cloud watching. All one needs is a soft mat and an open sky. It's amazing the shapes and sizes you can see. I made out a Snoopy the other day and I'm just a beginner.
