CB Antenna Mount wrong
#11
I had one like that and did not like it because I needed something more sturdy. I only had something bolted on with one bolt and it kept loosening up a bit. (trees and what have you hit my antenna on a daily basis) I went for ease of creation and install and now I got to re install it. It seems I have it figured out I just need to go do it. In another thread it recomended you take it and install it upside down on the other side. If I have enough antenna wire to reach that far I will be doing just that before I drill anything. If it works then I will take pics and post them. I will also be informing Walcott of the "Mod" required if it hits the tire.

Okay what I did today was put the bracket in a vise and after clamping a pipe wrench on it I bent it ever so slightly. Now I can still keep it where it was meant to be w/o any problems. I would have moved it but I did not have enough cable due to my having a 4 door and it seems depending on how you run your cable 18 may be close.

Really odd question... but can't you just mount it on the other side of the tire carrier and it'd be fine??
the picture on the site looks like its mounted on the passenger side of the vehicle, and looking at the angles, it looks like that little flat bend at the top where the antenna mounts folds back and into the tire ...
what’s to say you cant mount it on the other side of the tire carrier (drivers side) so that the flat bend is going in, towards the window and away from the tire???
I dunno how big that flat bend at the top of it is, but I seems like it'd fit that way and not hit the window in a hard or soft top since its spaced just far enough way from it due to the tail gate bulging out like it does and the slight slant of the window...
Am I wrong in this... or what?

The bolt holes are tapered on one side of it for a tight fit into the tire carrier. As you suggest it would work in theory. I just fixed my problem with the proper application of force. I am not about to undo it all now and find out. BTW putting it on the other side upside down as suggested would have worked too but my CB is mounted on top of my dash and there was not enough slack in my antenna wire to do it.
