Default CAUTION WITH Olympic Accessories

I'm not one to bash manufacturers so consider this a - BE VERY CAREFUL POST. Last year I purchased all Olympic accessories - bumpers and sliders for the Jeep. One year later the front bumper is rusting out from the inside in several places. I contacted Olympic and reported the problem. They said to return it and they would re-powdercoat it. The issue is - to do that it would have to be removed along with the winch and lights and be shipped back at my expense.

I explained that I can't hardly drive around without a bumper, with the winch cables hanging off for weeks. I asked if we could handle it through their dealer where it was purchased so they could send a bumper to 4Wheel Parts (where it was purchased and installed) and have them handle the issue. The management at 4Wheel Parts inspected the bumper, which is kept immaculate and undrilled, and agreed that it is defective. No success 4Wheel Parts contacted Olympic several times but continued to not call me back after every time I called them, and the one-year-old Olympic bumper continues to rust out until I replace it with another brand. I told them that since it was purchased from their authorized dealer, and installed there I felt it should be handled there. If I had bought it over the internet and installed in my garage, I would remove it and paint it or powder-coat it locally. Additionally, it isn't modified or drilled or tampered with in any way - and it's not 5 years old. It should hold up better than that.

So this isn't a "I don't like Olympic parts so don't buy them" post. I actually love the gear. It's a "if you buy Olympic parts you will be possibly buying a sub-standard, defective product" post and meant to forewarn everyone that it may be wiser to consider spending a little more and getting a product that will hold up the way it is supposed to. I write this because I have been a PM contact for many herein about Olympic, in the past, where I highly recommended them. I won't/can't do that any more with this bumper rusting out in one year and doing so in many places meaning that the steel was not properly prepared for coating. My contact at Olympic was very pleasant and unconcerned that I don't want a rusty Olympic part on my nice $30,000 vehicle.

I know how you feel, but many bumpers have rust after one year, even on some expensive models

Example, I saw rust on a fab fours bumper after one year

Depends where you live, and if you do or not oil treatment

Not to bash or anything, but you must not be a real Jeeper if defective products and a lack of customer support would prevent you from buying/recommending someone's products again.

What a bummer! I've been looking at quite a few of Olympic's products for potential future mods, so I appreciate the heads-up. Good luck with getting this resolved.

Unfortunately, it's illegal in Quebec

Some Jeepers I know had to remove it after the inspection

Sorry to hear that you are having rust issues. So far so good with my Olympic Safari mirrors LOL... Don't mean to make light of your current problem but is there really an answer?

I guess that as long as there is steel and water, there will be rust and powder coating is NOT the answer to keeping the two seperate.

What is the current state of aluminum products as far as availability, strength and cost? We Jeepers are smart and creative... what is the answer to this problem people?

Pastor Steve ... I am all for customer support, after all they took your money, gave you a product and implied a warranty of some sort.

I personally would look into the local powder coating cost vs shipping cost as it may be well worth having it done locally. the upside to local is you know your timeframe.

good luck
