Default Canoe on roll bar

Is there any reason I can't just strap a canoe to my jeep with the top down? I was thinking of putting some foam noodles on the windshields and bars, and tying it off to the tow hooks and either rear hook or receiver.

Any thoughts or lessons learned?

I heard the warrant officer where I worked tied a canoe to the roll bars on his 4 door JK. I did not see him with it on, but that is what the guy at MWR told me that is what he did. Don't think you will have any problems, think it is a good idea. I have a 2 door so it's a little harder to fit one.

I used to do this with my older TJ all the time too... so if you have a two door its not unheard of.

Yes a canoe is a little larger but I think its still possible.

I also do it with my Kayak all the time. Have done several long trips and the only difference I notice is very poor gas mileage. I can say first hand the roll bar is a good place to mount for a single.

I carried mine up there until I could afford a rack. It will scratch the top of the windshield frame if you don't protect it.

I did it with my TJ all the time. Bought some foam blocks that slide in the rails of the canoe and never had a problem
