It will be interesting to see how long the blackout trend will last. Chrome was the big trend for quite awhile. Around five years ago everyone started the black rebellion. Yeah, some people were into it long before that but it really hit mainstream in the auto and motorcycle world in the middle of this decade. I'm not saying chrome will make a big comeback anytime soon, personally I am a big fan of nickel finishes.
I accidentally started putting a lot of antiqued stainless on my motorcycle. I got into torching and twisting square bar while fabbing parts and loved the look it had before I polished it. The flat parts stay shiny while the twists become blackened.
It seems this forum is generally leaning towards a function before decoration path when it comes to Jeeps but not everyone is driving it as a rugged off road vehicle. It is yours and your wife's so make it your own. Chrome is a nice antirust coating so it is still practical but it really comes down to preference. If you like it, around here that makes you more unique than the herd that is following the blackout trend.

My .02 - I prefer the red and black look over chrome or SS. That said, it's your rig, make it your own! I agree that functionality comes first, but why not have a great look too!
