.....Anyone?

The tailgate won't open but a few inches with the bike still on the rack.

But what about when the bike is off the rack? I'm concerned about the tire hitting the right side wheel tray of the rack when the tailgate is all the way open.

I'm not sure of the rack pictured but on my Saris, my tailgate won't open with the rack on .

Thumbs up

I am using the Yakima Swing Away + 8" Receiver Extension on an '09 Rubi:

Pros:
Clears rear spare tire
Can open rear gate enough about 1/3 open to retrieve small items

Cons:
Tire still hits rack when opened fully

I already had the rack from another car (works great for a honda pilot with a lift back type gate)... if i knew i was getting a jeep, I'd have searched for swing away or fold down type rack that could have allowed the rear gate to open fully (not sure if this exists).

Why all the hate for the spare tire mounted ones? Do they suck or something? I have one that I'd picked up for my TJ but never had a chance to mount it before I drove the TJ into a tree.

I figure it'd probably fit the JK though. Haven't tried it yet though.

Every time I'm behind someone with one of those receiver carriers I cringe. They bounce around so much I'm sure I'm going to end up with a bike in my grill.

According to Thule... Theirs will BARELY fit on the stock spare tire, due to the width. Since many people on here have aftermarket tires, it likely wont fit.

As for the over-the-tire, stap-on versions, they don't seem super sturdy to me...
