Default Bestop Highrock Winch bumper, Bestop on Crack

I've had issues with my WINCH bumper bending as I try to winch someone out, I finally got it on video and sent it to Bestop customer service after a week or so of them studying it this is what they come up with

Mr. OBRIAN

Thank You for writing in, and sharing this video clip with us.

The clip that you have sent shows the bumper and the wench working as they should.

We are happy to see the flex in the bumper. It means that the stress is going to the bumper,
not to your vehicle. That is what was intended.

We don't know what the circumstances are or the situation is that you are wenching out of.
To be honest, that is the question of the day. Why is the vehicle stuck, and not moving?
What would be a situation where a wench would be used with burst like that? No one
here has the answers to those questions. We don't need to know the answers to these
questions, because we are seeing that it is working, these were just the questions that came up
in conversing about this clip.

From what we can see, this bumper is doing what it should be doing.

Bestop is starting the year with an aggressive new media campaign

ummm she's a supervisor She can NOT spell winch, and also spells my last name wrong, if she looked in the letter I sent and the letters her reps sent back to me which is copied at the bottom of this email she could see its spelled with an E, what a dumbass

Its happened 3 times that I've used it, one time it didnt happen I was winching a Samurai and using my snatch block. Its happened winching myself, winching a 2dr and winching a dodge, ok that may have been a little heavy but the others sure are not.

Just looking at the vid it looks like the flexing problem is due to the winch being mounted high on the bumper. If the winch and fairlead sat lower the pulling forces would be inline with the frame and bumper mounting point. As it sits now it looks like the pull of the cable is bringing leverage to bear on the mounting points and actually pushing the bottom mounting bolts in while pulling out on the top bolts. Without some additional bolts on the back side of the bumper going to the top of the frame rails to hold the rear of the bumper down I don't believe that the flexing under load can be stopped.

To me it looks like the bumper winch mount wasn't designed properly to take the stress of a heavy winch pull. The winch and fairlead should sit lower.

Anyway thats just my take on what I saw.

Yeah those work really well also. No leaks or lack of thought in design there.

Wow that just does not look like a good thing. I would not be happy with that at all.

What a cop out reply! Maybe she should try being a wench instead of a supervisor. She seems to be able to spell THAT right. How far from BestTop Are you? When that bumper fails and mangles itself all to hell, They would have a wadded up winch bumper throwed through their front door.
