Benefits to buying new 2009 over new 2008?
Looking to trade in my Grand Cherokee for a new 4dr JK Sahara. I have been searching for a dealer with a new 2009 assuming the newer model was the way to go, but I've come across a new 2008 4dr Sahara still on a local lot. It seems to be pretty much fully loaded for an '08 and wondering if there is any major benefits to sticking with my search for an '09 instead.
Obviously I'm a newbie, so any quick advise on my first purchase is much appreciated. I've searched the forum quite a bit and haven't seen anything that indicates any major changes in the 2009 that would shy me away from grabbing up the 2008. They're still asking $32K for it....shouldn't I be able to get it for less considering all the 2009's they have sitting in their lot.

They moved the latch in between the t tops up towards the windshield. I assume this was to help with the leaks. And added a couple small things like the netting below the radio and the tray inside the center console. And over the 07s the 09s seem like the rubber around the doors seemed beefier and didnt just pull out. But not sure if they did that in 08. And 32 for an 08 Sahara sounds absolutely ridiculous. I paid 31 for a loaded 09 Rubicon minus the dual tops.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is much difference at all between the two model years. The only thing the 08 has that I wish ours did, is that little net on the dash panel you can tuck your cell phone into.
That's very high price for an 08 Our 08 Rubicon was listed for $33K MSRP in Feb. this year but Jeep was selling the 08's for $6K off MSRP and then some. We got a great deal! It was loaded except soft top, side airbags and Navi. Last month or so I saw dealers clearing the 08's out for as high as $8K off MSRP. No way I would pay that much for an 08 Sahara considering we are half way into 09 already.

Remember, the purchase of a new 2009 will not only give you the 3/36K plus unlimited drivetrain, however your sales tax can be claimed when you file. Also, if your Grand Cherokee V-8 ?, gets 5 miles less to the gallon, then the Unlimited (not sure here), the new "Cash for Clunker Bill": may apply. Good luck with whatever year you purchase, the Sahara is a nice package.

I don't think the '08 has the hill assist. And since the '08 Sahara is still new, I'm pretty sure I should still get the 3/36K warranty, right? I have a 2005 GC limited V-8 4.7L with 68,000 miles....and my city mileage is as low as 13.5 mpg.
I think my only concern now wouild be the improvements associated with the hard top and leaks that may have been corrected in the '09. Otherwise a fully loaded black Sahara 2008 would be awesome, that is if I can get it down under the $33K sticker. It would be fantastic if I could get them to know of $7-8K as suggested. A $25 K purchase would be worth is I feel.

Our 08 Rubicon has the hill assist. Not sure about the TSC though. Also came with the unlimited powertrain warranty (not that I'd ever bet on them honoring it though

Three come to mind right off the bat 1.) The price sucks 2.) what's on the odometer and it been demo'd to death 3.) The build date and exactly how long that bad boy has been sitting around and being finger f*cked. Maybe just me but unless their giving it away I'd go with the 09. Good Luck!
