Just curious:
Anybody else using their gerry cans for extended range on the road? I just filled my tank, and two 5-gallon cans for a whopping $126.53 (28 gallons @ $4.519 per gallon here in West San Fernando Valley), I figure though it's kind of a small hedge against ever increasing gas prices...you save a few cents if you can cart more away all at the same time...it's the little things in life...

Your hedging the rise in fuel by buying now. Okay, let's say fuel rises 3 cents before you refill. $.03 x 10=$0.30. By not carrying the (6.2 x 10=62 lbs)extra 62 pounds I think you will save a little more.
You could save a little more if you are going to be making small trips from the house with this method and not carry the cans with you. Fill up at home when you need to add fuel. By not carrying the extra weight around you will save another little bit. You will see the largest gains by keeping the rpms low. This is quite difficult to make yourself do consistantly.
Due to inflation my advice is not worth $.02
Plus I'm gonna stick 114lbs of winch on the front of my Jeep. Hows that for helpin the mpg. I might leave the doors off more often. I think they weigh about 60 lbs a piece.

I used to do that all the time when I was driving to NorCal a lot several years ago. I'd fill up for the crazy price of $1.14 and carry 10 extra gallons to avoid paying the insane price of $1.50 along I-5. Ah the good old days!

When I drive over to NJ I do,, they are usually about .20 cheaper a gallon than we are.. If I'm going over I'm making the trip worth it.. tho they don't let you pump it yourself,, all full serve ans pumpers don't like nato cans for some reason??
