Anybody Know
Hey guys ....I'm looking to buy my third jeep. I'm considering the 2008 Wrangler Unlimited . I went down to the dealership and I was surprised to see that the had one already lifted with a Terraflex 3in lift and some 35 in tires. They were charging around 5700 for the upgrade. Does anyone know what their actual cost of this upgrade is ? And does anyone have any thoughts about it that may help with my decision? Thanks Guys for your help!

I'm guessing that they just have the basic 3" lift, i.e. w/o adjustable control arms and trac bars, etc.
5 wheels- approximately $1000
5 tires- aproximately $1400
lift- $763 from Northridge
That's a total of over $3100, so that's almost 100% mark-up. These are all guestimates, since I don't know the exact wheels and tires or if the lift is the basic one or the tricked out version. I also assume that you can do this yourself or with the help of a friend. I'm guessing labor would be around $500, give or take.
Then again, this way you can finance the mods, and I assume that they'll be under warranty. And you don't have to do any wrenching.
Decisions....

As 2K1TJ said, it really depends on what parts they added, but you could get pretty close to that for pretty inexpensive.
The Teraflex 2.5" BB with shocks is about $380 from Northridge.
You can pick up 5 Crager Soft 8 16" rims for about $350 (or a bit less) shipped.
From Discount Tire Direct you can get Hankook Dynapro MTs for $208 each, shipped.
If you install it all yourself, and figure about $60 for mount/balance, you could be on 35s with new wheels for about $1850.
Since we don't know what wheels, lift, and tires they had I have no idea how this compares. I picked the least expensive options I could find to get you to 35s with new wheels. Just another example of a way to save a few bucks.

Good rule of thumb about buying aftermarket upgrades from a new car dealer is, don't do it. It's almost guranteed that you are about to get ripped off in a big way.
Back in the mid 90's when trunk mounted CD players were popular the chevy dealer here would install one for you if you would like. Only $1000 dollars. I knew the local guy they sub-contracted to. They would bring the cars to his shop and he would charge they Chevy dealer $340 to install the unit. They chevy dealer charged the customer $1000.
Never buy upgrades from a dealership.

yes i got to agree it is a lil high BUT make sure that they are going to warrenty the drivetrain and make sure to get it in writing on the sale's reciept and most of all bargain with them get the type of parts and then price them figure parts total plus half the total for labor
