Love my "X"
I was recently on a group trail ride, and saw a Rubi break/bend his front sway bar connector because he didn't manually disconnect it! So, I guess the automatic/electric disconnect on the Rubi's is not all that they're cracked-up to be!

I have yet to be out done by a Rubi with a similar lift/tire combo that I have. With all the mods I've done to my X I still have plenty of left over $$ to spend that I saved by not paying the extra 10K for a Rubi. I'm not a Rubi hater I just like to build my Jeep my own way.

I looked at both and purchased the 'X' and no regrets. With the money I saved not buying the Rubi I added some performance and soon wheels and tires and still under the Rubi's MSRP.

I bought an X for 18k, only thing from the Rubi that I really cared about was the lockers so I installed arb's and 4.56's for $3200. The other 6k that I saved also put on 33's, a budget boost, some take off Rubicon wheels for $800 and even the sliders for a 100 bucks off eBay. Winch on a new bumper and still have less invested. All depends on the situation/person. This worked for me.
Now, had I lived around moab and not in Florida I might have reconsidered for the 4:1 t-case on the rocks.
Again, not to belittle the Rubicon, I love the thing, awesome vehicle but the lower monthly payment and having the personal preference in what lockers I wanted (heard the Rubi lockers weren't so great) and choice of gear ratios for the future 35's swayed me this way. To each his own. All Jeeps kick ass!

I bought my X due to a couple of reasons....
1. im going to modify most all of what the rubi comes with. ie lift, axles, wheels, tires
2. Price... i got my 2010 JK X for 23k! Still wrapped in plastic from the delivery truck!
3. didnt need the dvd Nav, leather seats, power windows, hardtop, lockers, and swaybar disconnect.
4. i added factory cruise control myself for 150 bucks!
5. 2 less stickers to remove to black her out

Who wants their mods done for them?
I am looking very hard at selling my Suzuki Samurai and purchasing a new Jeep Wrangler. My ego wants me to buy a Rubicon but my wallet is leaning towards the X which would still be a huge improvement over the Suzuki.
So did anyone "settle" for an X instead of a Rubicon and then later wish you had waited and saved a bit more?

I've been struggling with this since I bought my '08 X nearly 2 years ago. I really did not want to spend the extra money and so I didn't. But now after spending money on gears, lift, tires, wheels, lockers, etc. - I could have probably saved money if i went with the Rubicon from the beginning. No matter though, I love my X and always will. My next one (this is my 3rd Wrangler) will definitely be a Rubicon though...
