I love the X model. I got AC because it's so hot in Guam year around and the 3.73 gearing but the rest is stock. By the time I need D44 up front I'll be moving onto D60 front and back. And small things like the tow package, which would have cost me $250 dollars, I can do myself. I just fab'd my own tow hitch receiver for $6.

I'm not sure how this exactly applies here, but anyway here it goes.
I'm getting a JK soon. I, by no means, need a Rubi.
I can't find any Sports with the options I want and may likely have to order one with the stuff I want. I won't get any deals on an ordered Jeep. I have found some Rubis optioned with what I want. If I can get a Rubi optioned like want for something like, $1K-$2K more than an ordered Sport, I might do it. (BTW, I don't prefer the Sahara trim). Would this be a wise decision?

I have a 2 door Rubi and the only mods are bumpers, winch and a 1 3/4 lift. It does not need any other mods and I out wheel a lot of "built rigs". Don't let anyone kid you the 4:1 transfer case and lockers are in another league off road.

We also have a new 4 door X that will be my wife's DD and will not get any mods.

So I have no regrets on either one, other than a lot of payments.

I'll probably have to order my Jeep, and this really blows, because I haven't found any Non-Sahara with auto, side airbags, and dual tops. Well, I got quoted $30,062 for a $33,805 MSRP Rubicon ordered to my liking. Seems like a really good deal on a special order. And, I got quoted $27,294 (plus I'll have to add remote start separately) for a $28,885 MSRP Sport ordered how I want. It's a way better deal on the Rubicon, but it's still more cash. I don't think I need a Rubicon. If go for the Rubicon for $2,768 more, will I regret it?

I don't believe any knowledgeable, rationale (that's a big leap of faith) JK buyer that is going to go off road at least periodically would not take an Rubi over an X or a Sahara if the price tags were identical. This makes it a purely financial decision.

The cost of upgrading the axle, transfer case, gears, discos, etc is clearly higher than the ~$3K price uplift for the Rubi, which makes it a good deal.

IMO, if Jeep would upgrade the gears to at least 4.56's, since regearing still runs $1000 or more, it would be a no brainer, except for those who are planning a major build (i.e. long arms, 5"+ of lift, 40" tires, D60s, etc)

Then it just comes to affordability element.
