Same reason I open my tailgate window when I drive in reverse.....fresh air cures drunk driving...

I didn't put mine one time and broke my glass on a tree when I had it leaned way over in a huge rut

once you take everything off you can take it on the golf coarse as a golf cart... you didn't know.

It looks like you have your answer, but I'll add one more. About 22 years ago, I had a '65 International Scout (built like a jeep, removable top and doors). I folded down the windshield and took off down the road. I didn't get a quarter mile before stopping and putting it back up. The wind comes at you so hard you need goggles. So, unless your hunting and you keep it in first, don't bother.

I found out in Texas it is illegal to drive on the street with no windshield.
Off-road is a different matter.
I was wishing I had put my windshield down this past summer when crawling around Moab. It would have let in some breeze.

Could you put your windshield down and wear a helmet around town?

People could definitely see the wave then.
