After 5 months of lurking, I went to the dealership today and...

Last I looked it said JK Forum.com, I think one requirement should be "yes I own a JK" or atleast a Jeep of some kind. For someone to register in the forum then tell us what a piece of s**t they think our JK's are just because they wont smoke the tires is just wrong. why bother. We all knew what and why we were getting a JK to start with. IMO

Coming from someone who's NEVER been in Michigan, that doesn't mean a lot. Michigan's a beautiful state. Surrounded by the fresh water great lakes, many inland lakes, has 4 seasons of weather, so there's always something different you can do year around, borders right next door to Canada, lots of public state parks, rivers and forests for going off roading. There's tons of things to do in Michigan which you'll probably never get a chance to do in Southern California. Snowmobiling, Ice Fishing, Ice skating, Deer and Pheasant Hunting, Ski, camping during a cool fall night sitting around a camp fire with friends and family. Heck, even driving to work in the JK after you've gotten 2 feet of snow dumped on you can be a lot of fun. Sure beats the heck out of driving in traffic jams on the 405 freeway in a JK. Shouldn't knock it until you actually try it....but then again you seem to make a habit of talking about things that you know nothing about and try to act like you're some kind of expert on the subject. I've at least been to SoCal 20 different times.....so I can say for certain I'm not really missing anything.
While I agree that the OP is being kind of a tool posting on a JK site and he's pretty much picked a fight with you, there is NO reason for you to bash a state that has a ton of things to offer that you are certainly missing.
For instance, three weeks ago I was in Sequoia National Park admiring the largest living things on Earth. It snowed 28 inches in a day and I drove the jeep.
I have Snowboarded in the mountains and sailed on the Pacific. ON THE SAME DAY.
I can open my garage and ride my mountain bike to the top of a mountain range that is over 4000 feet (or 2000 feet higher than the highest point in Michigan).
I can hop on my road bike and within an hour be looking at girls in bikinis on the beach in february. If I am lucky, I will also see Gray whales migrating off our coast. The most interesting thing about that ride? I did it on public bike trails and never once had to ride next to a car.
You can wheel ALL YEAR LONG. Desert in the winter, throw in some of the best rock climbing the country has to offer just for grins. The Sierras in the Summer with some of the most beautiful backpacking and camping you could imagine.
Since you mention all of the great trails in Canada, It would be wrong of me to not mention the Rubicon. While technically not SoCal, Canada isn't even America.
I will also mention Spring in Yosemite with its waterfalls, Fall in Kings Canyon with changing leaves, Joshua Tree rock climbing, sailing, diving and deep sea fishing off the Channel Islands, wild flowers in the Mojave Desert.
If you want culture, let's talk culture. I work at one of Time Magazine's top 5 regional theatres in the country. We have world renowned symphonies, art galleries, museums, and Hollywood. Give Hollywood all the shit you want, as long as you don't watch tv or never go see a movie. If you do, STFU about Hollywood.
You are right, traffic sucks. My JK is my DD and I have spent my fair share of time in traffic. But, I have spent my fair share of time in traffic with no top on the jeep in November.
While there are a lot of things that are bad about California, there is one thing it will never have...

guys why are we even rising to this. if the guy wants a raptor let him have one. The fact that he is directly comparing two vehicles designed to do totally different things and priced in totally different segments, and doing it on a jk forum is probably sigh that he is not the sharpest tool in the drawer. if a raptor can meet all of his needs offroad than no a jeep is not worth it for him. a jeep is for extreme offroading and one makes concessions for this capability. If he is looking at a raptor he does not need this kind of capability.

Also....tread lightly on the DETROIT stuff. I've been to the East Side of Hollywood and the South side of L.A. Let's just say, these are areas that I wouldn't want to be driving my JK with the soft top on and leave it at that.
Cheers!!
