African JKs

The relanshonship between Jeeps and Land Rovers is an interesting one and goes way back, would be a cool topic for a new thread. The Jeep came out first and Land followed in 1949.
I have had a few Lands in my time but now I what a JFK and not a D90.
A few pics of my Land Rover 110 Defender TD HI CAP pick up.

Thank you very much , that is by far the best complement I've ever had for my 110 Defender.
The " camping spot" was deep in the Kalahari desert not to far from a place called "Deception Valley". It was me and a mate in my 1989 V8 Defender and we were stuck there for over a week in 1993.
4x4ing in Africa !

So did you finally have another vehicle come get you out or did you wait until the ground dried and dug yourself to freedom?

She's not the one you have to worry about. She's got what she wants.
What you have to worry about is that female lions hunt in groups. Where are the others? lol

So she's the only one looking after the cubs and would have to kill by herself to feed the kids. She would have made a calculated decision to go for this young buf, who would not have put up much of a fight that might risk injuring herself.
I'm betting that is a tracking collar on the lioness
I can not be any more jealous. That picture right there at the beach. Land Rover should be using that for advertising. Absolutely perfect

I know this should be an African JK thread, but it looks like alot of you guys would like to see more African wildlife pics, so I will post more pics.
Interesting that those of us who love Wranglers ( like me) also seem to have a soft spot for old Land Rovers and Defenders. So I will try to post pics of some of my African Landys until my JK finally gets here. Is that OK?
I have done a repost , hope you can see them now.

Black08X -
Plan a trip down to the Baja Penninsula. You can drive/ camp on the beach and listen to the sea lions, etc. Great snorkeling. Watch the tide on the east coast - whole lagoons will appear and disappear on you.
By the way, I went to high school at J. O. Johnson on the north side of town. I've heard it's changed alot in the last 25 years and most of my old trails are now subdivisions. I miss the bass fishing. There are a couple of trails by Wheeler Wildlife Res. that allow you to drive right to the water and camp/fish in the trees. Great view of the bridge to Decateur.
As for Africa,
I dated a South African living in Southern California. Very nice family. I enjoyed celebrating the holidays with them (Christmas crackers, etc.). I think she also spent some time in Rwanda.

We would try to dig during the coolest parts of the day and rest when it was hot.
After a week a 4x4 did find our note and came out to help us.
Man it was quite an experience even trying to make it back to civilization., the Landy caught on fire dew to the high grass seeds on the track. We managed to put it out with my fire extinguisher ( to this day I always carry two in my 4x4s). I also discovered that I had tick bite fever and was not in good shape. The last straw was just as we were about to enter a small town we hit a military road block. It was hell, next thing I knew I was face down in the dirt with an AK47 to my head and asked "why did I not have my seatbelt on?"
I had to keep cool and manged to talk myself out of a very bad situation.
This was in the bad old days and I have never experienced anything like that since.
I love traveling in Africa now, but I will never forget that experience.
This is a pic of us stuck.
This is one of the notes that we put out non the main track.
A sketch drawing of us stuck.
