About to be a Dad! Do I need a 4 door?
I guess this will be a question for all the parents out there. I currently own a 2007 rubicon 2dr. 35s. 3.5 lift etc. Ive just started looking at unlimiteds and not sure if it will be as practical as I envision. I'd like to go 33s and 2.5 on a 4dr. Should I just start looking at Suv's? Should I keep my 2dr? I love being able to load up my golden retriever and go to the lake or haul the bikes to the park etc. the back seat is never in. I guess we could get away with a ford edge or something...just feel like a little piece of me would die without a jeep.
Do you love or hate a jeep with a toddler? Explain. Thanks everyone!

Get it!
First of all congratulations! I have a JKU Rubicon and love it. My kids were in their teens when I purchased it but I could definitely see owning one if I had a toddler. It has enough space in the back for a stroller and all the other piles of stuff a little one requires when traveling. I put a 2.5 BB and am running 33's and I think it's sufficient for cruising along the beach and some moderate trail and rock crawling from time to time. I say get the 4 door.

The 4 doors are nice for easy access of putting the car seats in the back. It can be a pain pulling the seat forward all the time in a 2 door.
Also once again easier for the kids to get in and out with the 4 door when they get a bit older.

I have a buddy that when he was born his mom told his dad to go get a family car........he came back with a Corvette. When she got mad he wedged a baby seat in between the 2 seats and said "see it fits! you, me and our son!" granted it was the 80's. So how bad could a JKU possibly be, I mean it does have 4 doors and a decent hatch area. The moral of the story? Buy now and question later!

Never ever get a SUV! We got rid of our lifted 03 TJ due to it being a total pain in the butt to get our daughter in and out of when she was born but this was a year before the JKU came out. We just picked one up and I'm totally impressed w/ the room it has more due to the rear seat not being between the wheel wells and there's even enough room fro a stroller in the back. Just picked up my 2.5" lift today and have the same predicament as you now and am totally looking forward showing my son pics in the future of bringing him home in a Jeep.

Congratulations. I have a 3.5 yr old son and a 2 yr old daughter. I got my jeep after they were born and new I needed a JKU. Getting them in and out with car seats is so much easier than with only 2 doors. I cant imagine doing that with a lift in a 2 door. As far as being practical, I have no issues. My wife really enjoys taking the top down with the kids and riding around.
Kids absolutely love it. They like to play in it while its parked in the drive way and tell their friends at school about the jeep. My son even "helped" putting on the "bump".
Good luck. Your life will never be the same, in a good way of course.

First off, congratulations. My brother-in-law has 2 kids, and a 2dr TJ. Watching him get car seats in and out, I knew I wanted a 4dr. They prefer to use their other vehicle for traveling with the kids because it is a pain. I have an 11 month old, and I could not imagine having a 2dr. Getting the kid in and out of he back is one thing, but another big thing is the space. I can take my 100 lb black lab/shepherd, the baby, stroller, toys, and packed bags for a weekend. The back doors are still tight getting the kid and seat in and out, but easier than a 2dr.
I guess it depends if your 2dr is your daily driver or not.
