7 Passenger RUBIBUS
#21
If you're such a Jeep 4x4 Zealot, then why did you bother with a 4 dr Jeep, or at least spring for the Rubicon? Isn't that just as anti-purist as your other complaints?
And I guess those Land Rover Defender 90s with side seats are soccer-mom-mobiles as well? Of course, most of the known universe would beg to differ.
Geez, dude, lighten up. There's room for everybody in the tent.

My thoughts on the idea are these: I too wanted to put another seat in the back, i'm always the designated driver when we go out as i don't really drink much if at all. The more people i can take, the more i know someone won't end up driving home drunk. As for safety all i can think about is how the TJ and YJ i had had a back seat almost smack against the tail gate... tip you head back a bit and you were bumping into the back window. Then i got to thinking about how to do it... i have a 4dr JK, and haven't really seen a 2dr JK up close yet, but i know the seat in the 2dr is between the back wheels like on the older models... and the 2dr is just as wide as the 4 dr... so why not get a back seat out of a 2dr JK, and get the hardware too, and bolt it up in the back of a 4dr JK. It would still fold and tumble, be removable, and match the rest of your interior. All that would be left to do is figuring out seatbelts. In the end, i probably wont ever put a seat back there, only because i'm almost done with college and wont be DD much long after everyone moves back home and loses contact (sad but true), and for the money, i'd rather be adding lift, tires, or HP. but i would be really curious to see if this would work... If anyone tries it please post pics.

I had a neighbor who put an extra seat in his scrambler so he could take his four kids wheeling with him.
Not sure how he would feel about being called a "soccer mom" but his scrambler went just about everywhere in moab. It made a lot of them "real mans jeeps" look pretty bad. He took care to make sure the seat belts were attatched properly (harnesses I believe) and he built a real nice cage to protect them in case of a rollover.

OK, I agree with about everything in this thread except the comments about soccer moms. Have some self confidence. The army used the original jeep for just about everything they could think of, including troup movement. They even turned the poor thing into a tractor after the war. It is a general purpose utility vehicle. Using it for a soccer mom might not find its full potential, but imagine the lucky guy who buys it when she is done with it. Jeep, like no other -- and this proves you need no other.
Here is a piece of the email I got from little passenger seats about their jumpseat. It can be mounted to face any direction. I was going to try to put it in an 06 unlimited until I started looking at the JK. There is plenty of room in the cargo area of the 4dr jk for it and you would still have more room between the back window and the seat for a crumple zone.
the seat has a foot print of 10" depth by 15" width. There are two sets of mounting slots in the steel base that are on-center at 9" and 5".
You can make yourself a cardboard template and use that to position the seat. You will need an area under the floor pan for a bracket to attach that will use one of the mounting point sets (9", 7" - off-center, or 5").
This bracket will attach to the bottom of the floor pan and stay in place when the seat is removed. You may be able to install the seat front, side or rear facing, depending on the layout of the floor pan and the leg room needed. We may have a drawing of the mounting base and if so we will e-mail that to you.

Go ahead Jr., jump in the back seat,I figured out the crumple zone is the same as the 2 door....Youll be just fine!
You go ahead and make yourself a crash test DUMMIE!! Just leave your children out of it!

Some of you on here need to chill out and relax......why do all forums have to have so many attitudes. Who cares if someone wants an extra row, who cares if they own a Rubicon and don't wheel it.........it's not your Jeep, so let it go.
