I got $50 that says you'll never see it in a wrangler from the factory!

I saw in an auto mag somewhere that the new '09 dodge truck was going to be released with two diesels. One for your heavy duty towing, like the 2500-3500 series and one for your lighter duty trucks like the 1500-2500 series. The second being geared more toward fuel savings. The rumor of the smaller engine came about when the cummings plant announced that it would be putting out a new smaller motor. This marriage makes since. Besides, how often has Chrysler put the engine that you really wanted in the Jeep?

It is said to be 2010 until the 1500 gets the new Cummins. I know there is supposed to be two new diesels coming, it would be interesting if Dodge was the first to offer a choice of two diesels for its 2500 & 3500+ trucks.

Interesting post within the link:

i live in toledo ohio where the wranglers are born. i have a couple friends who work for jeep building these wonderful machines. i asked this veary same question and was told that they will be out for the 2009 moodel year.
i asked him and he said yes it is supposed to be a cummins. and im sorry but i said the wrong thing earier. he said it will be available in 2010. but they will be making them in 2009. so when the 2010 model year vehicle comes out in the end of 2009. he also said that they are working on a couple vehicles now with new style bumpers that have winch mount plates and other parts that used to be aftermarket stuff. but the company is trying to tap into some of that market so they will be offering alot of stuff as factory options that used to be aftermarket stuff. this is a plus cause it will help maintain your warranty. more info to come.
His mention of the factory getting in on the aftermarket goodies is correct, I hope that gives him accredibility for the diesel information.

As far as 'actual' weight is concerned, I can't release that info just yet, because I honestly don't know the exact number; however, I did just ask a source and it IS less than MB's(very vague I know.) There is room for bi-turbos, infact that has been implicated(Holsett.) This engines biggest competitor is HEMI which Dodge owns the right too and Cummins and Dodge walk hand in hand, of course. HEMI is NOT in any means on the way out, as you can tell.
You all are stuck on the engine at this point, but you might want to look into which transmission will be mated to the engine. Does the name Allison ring a bell? I have yet to see the transmission yet or hear anything more than Allison mainly because that is not our field. Only time will tell and I'll keep you all informed as I get more bits and pieces.
