3K off of sticker?
#42
I'm looking for a plain jane Rubi in Texas too but I'm not getting any quotes near $3750 off. I've checked in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio so far and $2,500 is the best offer I'm getting.

Wow guys, super valuable thread here. I am so glad I found it.
I'm getting out of an '02 BMW that I have had as a daily driver/commuter that I bought new. KBB Trade in is between $4862 and $6262. Resale is $7777. Just giving you all this as a baseline for my decision.
I have been working with my local dealer for 2 weeks now on getting me a 2012 JKU Sport with 24S, Connectivity with Uconnect/bluetooth/Sirius, Auto, Trac-Lok, and Hard Top. Sticker is $31,645.
I told them I wanted $30k out the door (without trade in). They came back with $34,xxx out the door and only $4k for my BMW. I walked.
Today I get on Truecar and now I have 5 voicemails from the same dealer and others around SLC. Truecar price saves me 5% ($1,645) bringing it down to $29,775. Am I being unreasonable in the price I am trying to get? I am willing to take less than $5k for the BMW because it could use some work if I am going to keep it... AND it motivates them to come off of the sticker price even more since they are making off like a bandit on my trade. My credit union already has a $30k check literally waiting.
Any Insights???

$4k on the trade is a ripoff but no dealer gives you anything close to value so grin and bear it.
Is the truecar discounts counting rebates or are rebates on top of the discount.
Either way tell the local dealer that the otherguys quoted you a better price and see if they come down further.

His post says MSRP/sticker is $31,645.
Taxes, tags, etc are different in every State. It is impossible to express an informed opinion unless he tells us:
1. MSRP/sticker - $31,645.
2. Sale/discounted price, after all rebates.
2. Trade allowance.

Sticker is $31,645 and Tax is $1878 plus $1708 in fees. Total came to $34,585.
My thinking was negotiate $5k for the trade, keeping $4k for myself so the dealer made $1k to put against the sticker.
$33.5k after taxes for them, but get me out the door for $30k. That is basically the 10% off that others have mentioned.
Does that make sense?

Hopefully I can clarify. Whatever they decide on my trade, I am keeping $4K separate (not going towards the Jeep)

Taxes of $1878 go to the Government. Who gets the $1708 in fees?
Around here, dealers often pad their profit with several hundred dollars of BS fees.
In any event, your numbers don't look like much of a discount.
Personally, I recommend USAA Auto Buying Service, which doesn't require insurance with them, or TrueCar or Tread Lightly.
