Default 35's on stock rims

So is it possible to throw 35s on to the stock wheels on my 07 Rubicon jk without spacers? I will eventually get better wheels but for now I'd like to make that work I gave a 2.5 terrflex lift on the jeep currently.

You'll want spacers for sure. The lift puts things in close proximity to the tires. I've seen people try to get away with it first-hand and I've seen the sway bar links rub clear through the sidewall of the rear tires. Buy once, cry once.

Good luck! Taller tires cause problems

Wider, not taller. You can usually get away with a 34x10.50 without issue but few folks want that size tire. A 255/80-17 is the equivalent if I'm remembering right.

You'll definitely need spacers for the wider width as mentioned. Also, another thing to be aware of is that all tires have a min width wheel spec and typically a 12in tire min width exceeds the stock wheel width. While many have mounted wider/larger tires on stock wheels without issue, many shops won't mount the tires on the wheels if the wheel width doesn't meet the specified tire width due to liability concerns. Which often causes going to another shop until you find one who doesn't care and just wants your business.

Occasionally an over-width tire on an aluminum rim will cause wheel to break

Do you have any evidence of this? I've not seen it and this would be the first I've heard of it. I've seen the stock aluminum wheels break but usually it's out at the edges from contacting rocks or other immobile objects at high speeds.

I mounted 10X15 tires on stock rims on a CJ-5 many years ago, two of the wheels peeled at hub. Best AMC wheels available at that time

Well, two things:

1) You will need spacers. Mine hit when I put them on.

2) I have been running 35x12.50 tires on my stock rims for 6 years with no issues, and I have not been gentle. In fact, it has prevented any tires from peeling off the rim, even at 3PSI.

YMMV.

Yea it looks like I’ll just grab some spacers for now. They aren’t crazy expensive and it’s not they will hurt anything. Thanks for all the info folks! This is honestly the best community to be apart of!
