I would've called that old-Jeeper out on his BS. I feel like the majority of set ups with JK's on this forum happen to be with a budget boost and 33's. Mine is and it rides great with my 3.73 gears.

You will be absolutely fine. It's when you go 35's and beyond you may need to think performance. But for now, order your stuff and start having some fun!

33's are fine. I have a 2" lift and I'm running 285/75R16 Cooper Discoverer S/T's on procomp 8069's with 4" backspacing. I have a 6-speed with 4.10s and rarely use 1st gear on the street.

I have been loving my set up. BFG KM2 305/70/r16. I went with the 16" wheel basically for a little more sidewall showing. I wasn't ready to go to the 35s. I have heard that 305/70/r16 is considered a 34" tire however when typing it in to a conversion website it always comes up somewhere in the 33" range. Maybe someone else can explain why that is. Definitly go with the 33's in a MT. I am running a 3.73 auto. 4.10 would be nice but it is definitly not much different then the sahara set up.

I wouldn't say he's full of it, he probably really doesn't like 33's.
Everyone has an opinion, but I think he is the minority for sure.

I'm running 33x12.5 with 3.21 gears. I could tell they were a little heavier. Superchips flash paq and it's better than stock

All in all I'd say it is the perfect setup for me. Takes me where I need to go but not to big where I need to worry constantly about breaking things.

I say put your 33's on and post pictures!!

Just my 2 cents, would be get the 33's and a small lift 2" or 2.5". They work great together. Pretty amazing what you can do whith this combo! I would also go wide..like a 12.5 since you are getting new rims. Have fun!

I just installed a new set of 33" 285/70R17 Goodyear Silent Armor for winter, and I noticed no change in ride quality. I'm also running 3.73 gears. Any penalty due to the increased rotational mass is negligible. Just 5 pounds more per tire.

My regards,

I had a YJ owner tell me the exact same thing... we were talking tires one day... I told him my JK has 32 inch tires stock and he laughed at me and said I was lying.
