3.8 v6
I know our 3.8 is from the grand caravan, but what year can I go and get one from. My local bone yard has a few 00 model years, but I am not sure if the engine is the same and I haven't gone to look.

With emission equipment and computer programing I doubt they would be the same. Your best bet is to get one from another JK. Or contact one of the Hemi installers like Camp Crocker or OffRoad Evolution as they usually have a few laying around.

NO...the 3.8L engine in the 2000 Chrysler Minivans is not the same as the engine in the 2008 Minivans, or obviously in the JK.
(According to my research the Engine in the 2008 Chrysler Minivan is 229cubic inches, and the JK engine has a whole 231 .)

Technically....the answer is yes it's the same and no it's not. It is the same in that it shares the same dimensions as it's minivan predecessor. There are so many differences though, that I cannot list them all. Read this. It will help.

Depending on the emissions restraints in your area you may be limited to an engine that is same year or newer, some places are pretty no nonsense on that. Don't know if they would notice it though.

It's not the same engine. Youo should be able to find a very low milage 3.8L cheap from someone or someplace that has done as engine swap.

The biggest difference is that the JK engine is a North-South engine (rear wheel drive) and the minivan engine is a east-west engine. While they have many common parts, how the power is transferred is different. Another words the lower engine block is different. I have not done a comparison myself, but did read about it in 2006.

Ok, the main reason I was asking is I have a friend that works for a machine shop. So he and I have come up with this plan of getting a 3.8, boring it, some custom made pistons and opening up the intake ports and matching them.
