Have not seen any 2wd around though I haven't exactly been looking, but thinking they may get a little better mpg. Has anyone who's seen them on the lot noticed a difference on the epa rating?

Not everyone needs a 4x4 but the versatility of the Jeep Wrangler doesn't stop with the transfer case.
Top off, doors off, convertible top, hard top, freedom tops only....
What else can do so much? The 2 wd is not for me but there are folks that should have the option of this vehicle without the 4wd. Mallcrawl the fun and sun I say!

I don't think so...
I saw a 4dr 2WD with 6" of lift on 35" on eBay... come on !!! You couldn't even go on a beach with that thing, you would get stuck... you'd be better off in a Subaru forester...
Maybe Porsche should come out with a 1.3L engine for the 911 for those who like the looks of a 911, but don't need the power and are looking for better fuel economy.. Most of them don't put their cars on the track anyway so why not...
Or how about a Hemi version for the Smart for someone looking for a small car, easy to park downtown, but likes power and speed... (actually some guy put a GSXR 1200 engine in one... search: Smart Diablo... it's so freakin fast..LOL)
Anyway, my point is; I think it's a major marketing mistake to sell a product like that.

I don't think it should be an option in any climate. And btw my jk sucks on the beach in NC in 2wd aired down to 12. Although the Corova Beach sand is deep rutted and unforgiving. I have to use 4wd or I start to sink.

I do alot in my Jeep without putting it in 4wd. I personally wouldn't buy a 2wd Wrangler but that doesn't mean thre isn't a market for it. Actually I only buy vehicles that are 4wd or AWD but that is my preference.
I personally don't hold it against anyone if they NEVER go offroad at all. Some guys are hardcore offroaders and some people just pick their kids up from school and drive too and from work... nothing wrong with that.
