Default 2500 miles and troubles 😖

Got my jk in June (first car I have bought) and already the check engine light has been on twice. First time on 8/8 the dealer chalked it up to being a "loose gas cap". It just went off 3 days ago and now it is back on again. Checked the gas cap. And it defiantly isn't loose. Any ideas?

It's a 2015 jk, new only 2.5k miles. 😕

What does the error say? Only check engine? My 2012 once had a loose gas cap error. This was actually caused by a tiny air leak in the hose going into the Evap canister. I tweaked the hose, the light went out and never returned.

When they read it the first time the girl said their was "no active code". It's going back in a half hour. I was thinking it must be a bad sense or a hole or something.

This happened to me when I bought crappy gas. Put 20 bucks of gas at another station the light went out.

If the check engine light is on, a code has been set. The shop should be able to scan it to figure out what it is. It's a brand new vehicle. Don't monkey around. Make it the dealer's problem, because it should be.

Once you get a few bugs worked out, your Jeep should deliver many faithful miles of trouble-free performance. At least, that's been my experience with owning 2 of these things. Good luck!

hopefully I don't get in trouble for posting links to different sites, can't remember what is allowed and what isn't, but follow the steps outlined here to read your own engine code, then write it down, and Google the code to find out what it means and how to fix it, then go to the dealer armed with knowledge of what is actually wrong with the Jeep so they can't monkey you around as easily.

code readers are so inexpensive now. Anyone that has any desire to know what there engine codes are should just buy one. You can get the OBD2 things to plug in for under $20 that communicate with smart phone apps that are free.

Well. Got a call. They said they ran a smoke test and it all came back clean. So. I guess we will see.

I didn't realize they had gotten that cheep, you really don't need one for the JK though, three turns of the key and reads the code out to you. Super handy. One of the smartest things I've seen a car company do, possibly ever.

Do a search for elm327 scanner. Then get a cheap app on your phone or iPad such as Dashcommand. Then you can see all kinds of stuff, including trouble codes. Total investment under $30.
