I never buy a first year vehicle. They always have bugs that get worked out by the 2nd or more likely 3rd year.

If you're concerned with reliability then current years 2014/2015 are going to be your best bet, everything has been around for a few years now; engine, vehicle, etc.

If you want the newest greatest thing then you will have to deal with issues, hopefully very minor, to have the newest toy on the block.

I have an early 2007 model JK, and I have had very few issues in 8 years. A replacement rear tail light bulb, and a clip for my front fender needed to be replaced. No leaks, great paint job. No real issues to speak of. They put it together well and took their time to build it proper. New jeeps get rushed through the assembly line and seem to have all sorts of problems, as well as teams of cost cutter s,going through the vehicle, making minor changes to shave money. I wold at least wait a few months to make sure any flaws, right off the bat, are not your problem...

Chrysler prior to Daimler takeover: leading Pacifica Design Studio; aluminum know how with Plymouth Prowler; Shelby ties with composite wheels and no waste-gate turbos; billions in war chest. Post take over: design studio underfunded and key members joining Chevy; aluminum team joins Ford; Shelby goes to Ford; billions go from Chrysler to Daimler. American engineers crapped on by German teams. American platforms handicapped to not compete with Mercedes. Those hand-me-down platforms crippled by design. German emphasis was less money in and increase margins. This was far from a merger of equals. Example: M-E 4/12 Chrysler designed super car created in 2 years under budget/ under time. Production ready. Less than Mercedes super car. Faster than Mercedes. Sunk since it would compete and undermine. Another example: PT Cruizer- (ahead of time cross- over) selling well and instead of pouring money into platform, Daimler cheeped out tarnishing image.

Also know that the Grand Cherokee is based off a Mercedes.

The cheap hard plastics on interiors from initial JK launch is from Daimler. The soft touch interiors on current line is investment from Fiat.

My 2012 has been fantastic since I bought it brand new. I have no regrets. Now almost 59,000 miles. Only issue that needed to be addressed was the slow clock.

178,000 miles on my 2008 unlimited x and has had zero problems. I've just replaced the alternator and battery. I would wait a couple years or buy an older model as stated above. Let's the problems be worked out

Thought it was 2011. I looked at getting a Mango Tango 2011, but heard of the new engine coming in 2012 and held off to see what the new more powerful engine was actually going to be.

Little history. Daimler sold Chrysler to Cerebus in May 2007. http://www.casestudyinc.com/daimler-...-failed-merger Fiat bought 59% of Chrysler in 2009.
When I picked up my Jeep in May 2007 the dealership was removing Daimler signage and placing Cerebus banners. The ongoing Daimler tie is the Grand Cherokee platform.
