2012 Wrangler - Bits and Pieces
Yea I just got back from a few recalls at the dealer today, and decided to chat with the manager instead of going home. We have 3 jeeps, so they love me and usually tell me everything they know. You will be able to order the 2012 in late July depending on how fast dealerships can clear 2011 inventory when they slow production next month, they actually expect it to be a good summer to clear the inventory fast.
I'm looking at the new color 'Black Berry' Rubicon because they wont be coming out with a dark grey like I wanted, and I'm not into the other bright colors. HP will be at 290, they wont have the MPG released until it actually comes out because they are still working on emissions.
The more interesting and fun Jeep will be the Cherokee 2012 SRT8... its one bad jeep but at almost 60k that's a lot of mods for me Also ask your local Jeep dealer to go in the back and show you all the new FIAT's they have back there, they aren't on the floor yet and aren't supposed to show you but they started arriving last week... yes your local Jeep dealer is now a Fiat dealer lol.
My woman drives our 2011 GC Pentastar, def not a hemi... very much like an Infinity FX35 as far as HP goes but as far as I'm concerned that's great for us, plenty of HP for Jetskis and we dont have a boat anymore. For the Wrangler i think you'll still have to intake + gears it to make it feel decent with 35's.
I'm not really into the interior of the new Wrangler, I like the open feel of my current Jeep. Plus I have a 2011 Limited Grand Cherokee... I'll stick with that if I am going out on the town or road trips.
But like many on here I'm in the market for either a SC this summer on the current setup or a Pentastar. The biggest debate now is the SC Pentastar, in talking to Vortech last week they really are going to do a number on it, testing on the GC now. They are thinking close to 400 HP on the Pentastar and still getting 19/23mpg, and they reassured me they would give me a 3 Year / 30,000 mile Powertrain warranty to make up for the one that I would void on the Pentastar.
That being said the new Wranglers wont come with Lifetime Powertrain on the Pentastar, only 5 Year / 100,000 mile warranty's. So that's one advantage of the 3.8 and something to think about for you guys trading in... if you really don't need more horsepower.
Also interesting to look some of the parts etc that Fiat has done for them. Leather is one of the best improvements, they forced a supplier change to a much better longer lasting Italian leather. It really is a huge improvement, very nice stuff. The modification world is going to become a tad more difficult but maybe better for all of us. Fiat is requiring that the service department take digital pictures of warranty/recall work, then uploading that to the database to track with your repair. Supposedly its for liability reasons so they can see where in the process things fail.
But it also means that if there is a question on 'WHO' covers your jeep after you lift it, after you break your axle, after you blow it up from a Turbo... a Fiat analyst will actually review the repair and determine who will pay for the repair. This is good and bad, it means that they will follow the letter of the law when it comes down to "You wont fix my timing belt because I have a 4" lift? WTF?" so it will be easier to make an argument that (All warranty's will be honored if your modificiation is proven to not impact the repair). However what it also does is try and save FIAT money, since FIAT actually pays the dealership for the warranty repair work, crooked dealerships will not be able to increase their revenue by allowing anything and everything to be repaired under warranty... so if its questioned the Fiat person will audit the pics etc. These system switch overs are not cold turkey... so it will probably be next year before all the dealerships actually follow the new rules.
Ehh anyway, back to work

MSRP will be closer to $50k fully loaded. It's going to very popular, can't wait to drive one!

Informative, thanks for that but i'm still not interested, didn't hear the diesel word. I normally change my vehicles every year but since switching to jeep I now go 2 years. Won't be replacing with another jeep unless there is a diesel.

I'm disappointed, but I don't think it is going to make me wait for 2013.
