The bottom line to all this is that Jeep is in the business to make money and by doing these things they build a bigger demographic to buy their product. Like someone else mentioned most people who buy jeeps probably do very little wheelin and just want a cool vehicle they can take the top off of and thats good in bad weather.
I say as long as the basics of what you like about this vehicle are still there, doors off, top off, four wheel drive then the "luxury" stuff shouldnt matter. I think its hysterical that these little things make some people so angry as if it truly takes away from the capability of the vehicle or your ability to mod it as you like. Things like heated seats or powered mirrors or better radios or even STICKERS shouldnt be that big of a deal yet Ive read people trash my islander cause of color or they dont like the sticker on it. But the truth is its just as capable as the other sports or X's and just as capable of being modded to compete with ANY of the jeeps out there.
Again bottom line is Jeep will do what will make them the most money and this will make them more money. I say as long as the fundamentals are still there then cool some of the stuff people will like some of it they wont but that would be the case with almost anything.
Now having said all that I can understand that it is more the principal of what a jeep stands for and the hard core community that follows it that upsets people but progress/change (sometimes not always the same thing) is going to happen whether we want it to or not. Just my well maybe buck-50

I agree with you...
I remember a while ago, some people were bashing jeep owners that took the A/C option...!!!!
Who's yelling now !!!! Same goes for 4 doors...
Heated seats... sure, bring it on !!! I don't have a garage and trust me, here in Montreal, when it's -30 deg.... Heated seats are GREAT !!!
The more jeeps they sell, the more options we get, and the prices goes down...
I think the jeeps have been getting better and better over the years... It was the first vehicle I ever bought and I still own one...

I wouldn't mind a heated steering wheel, kind of like the heated grips on my Harley. I try to ride naked, or at least doorless, as much as possible....and even in the summer, it gets pretty damn chilly on my morning ride when it's summer and still mid 50's.
With that being said, gloves work just fine, and so does my 200 degree heat vents.

not to upset anyone, but hardcore offroad jeep owners are kind of a weird group... i have been on various jeep forums since getting my tj, it always seems like there are a group of jeepers who seem to be personally offended by the choices of the powers that be at jeep. after a few years without a wrangler, i am feeling that itch again. i drove an 84 cj7 from 96-99, 97 tj from 99-04, then needed more room so i tried a liberty from 04-06 (big mistake), since then i have driven an 05 wrx wagon.
if you don't like what they do, vote with your wallet (either at the dealership or with one of the hundreds of companies that make aftermarket parts for jeeps). not everyone wants to beat the bag out of a 25-33 thousand dollar vehicle. i just want the option to take off my top, doors and rugs and throw a canoe, kayak or surfboard on the roll bar and have some fun in the summer. As soon as the pentastar v6 is in the unlimited, i will buy it... i might even get a black islander or mountain edition (gasp)... i don't need a Rubicon, but i am glad that those that do can get it. i doubt that will change anytime soon. if the brand is being managed properly, they will produce whatever vehicle makes sales and keeps them out of the red.
i loved my cj7 for what it was, at the time i wanted a lifted jeep on m/t's that i could beat up off road. now, i am looking for a mall crawler that can drive through crappy dirt roads on my way to enjoy my summer hobbies. I guess i am the lucky one because that seems to be their focus.

Understand that for Omar tar = pavement ; in spanish is the same tar = brea = pavement
The manual states that you can't use even 4wd hi on pavement because it will damage the drivetrain.
On the other hand, my wife's Suzuki XL7 has an AWD system that's designed for pavement and light off road which is very helpful during torrential rains, light snow, dirt roads, even taking a sharp turn at higher speeds, the system senses what wheel is slipping and will send power to it.
That simply can't be done with the 4wd system on the Wrangler. They are two different systems.

This is why I liked the SelecTrac transfer case in my first year Liberty. It has a fulltime 4WD (not AWD) option in addition to 2WD, 4WD Lo, 4WD Hi ranges, and it is perfect for constantly changing road conditions or heavy rains. I hopw when the pentastar engine comes, we'll get a choice like that. I will be unable to resist.

Wish they would get smart and put full gauges in the dam thing to keep tabs on the important systems, oil pressure etc, in the engine instead of idiot lights.
At least it makes sense to me.
