2009 JK Tops
I noticed on Quadtrec that they have a differnent part numbers for hardtops! The 2007-08 has the same but 2009 is different and is $40 more!! Anybody know why??
Just for input: I had to get a new soft top under warrenty and having to wait bc the part numbers are different also.....

They redesigned the front latch in an attempt to deal with all the leaking of air and water that plagued the 2007 and 2008 model year. The front latch is in a different location and the footmans loop on the windshield have been moved accordingly on the 09.

I think an pre-09 top will work on an 09 -- Since the 07/08 hard top doesn't engage the center loop, you just don't get whatever advantage the 09 change provides.
I don't think the reverse is true; I don't think an 09 top would work with an 07/08 Jeep since the front/center latch depends on the loop. The latch on the drivers side freedom top panel pulls it down against the windshield header, and the drivers side panel overlaps the passenger side at the top and thus locks down the passenger side. Without the loop, there's nothing to lock the two panels together in the front/center. Whether you could move the loop easily I don't know.
When I was shopping for my 09 JK, I actually saw an 09 with an 08 top installed. The 09 had been built with a black hard top according to the window sticker; but it was sitting there with an 08 khaki top. ALWAYS triple-check the window sticker against what is or isnt really there.
