I like the basic colors. It means in order for your Jeep to stand out you need to mod it. At least it wont be Surf Blue which I saw on a Patriot and made me throw up a little.
My TJ was steel blue and I wanted to pay her homage by getting a Steel Blue Unlimited but maybe the Jeep gods just aren't with me on this.

parked my steel blue JK next to a modern blue liberty over the weekend at the dealership... the colors are VERY VERY similar... the modern blue may be a shade more blue, but nearly idenitcal. the steel blue has more of a gray shade in the sun.

They're dropping Rescue Green so that they can add a second silver ?

I'm happy with it. I really wanted to get a nice bright blue, and so was pondering waiting until the '09 colors were announced. Couldn't stand it and went with yellow. Now that we (maybe) won't be getting a bright blue, I feel a lot better about buying.
But I do agree that the colors aren't remarkable. But then again, I think of the current colors only the Rescue Green, Det Yellow, and Flame Red stand out anyway. The others are more basic.

I would like the orange if it was not bright. I think a dirty orange / rust color that has been real popular that past couple years would look really sweet on a new wrangler.
