Default 2008 JKU..Good Buy or wait for '12

My brother-in-law's neighbor is selling his wife's JK, Is this a good deal?

2008 Unlimited X 12,000 miles.

4x4, Auto, Dual Tops, Pwr options, NAV, Blk mopar side steps

100% bone stock, never been off road. Exterior is in like new condition.

$21K

**Plus its Detonator Yellow! Woo Hoo! (although wifey is so hot on the color )

Basically its either wait for a 2012 in any color I want & more HP & a better trans (w/o dual tops & NAV), but a nicer interior or this 2008 yellow JKU & ~5K to modify it with (Gears, Lockers, 2.5" TF & 1" spacers, 35's) w/ less HP.

Yes whichever JKU I get will be my DD, but I only commute 10 miles to roundtrip. I will be OR about 30% of the time w/ it. We (my wife) also have a 2011 Sonata for long trips etc

I would pull the trigger on the used model. I don't think the new motor will make much of a difference in off-road situations. It will be a big plus for people like me who have lengthy highway commutes and need to tow boats and trailers.

Tough decision but I would go with the 08 cause u can make it ur own right away amd u will have the luxuries like nav. I am sure if u get the new one like u said u may not be able to have that extra 5k around to make it ur own.

I say go for it! I really like my detonator yellow unlimited! That's a pretty dang good deal at 21k. I gave 22500 for my unlimited 08 4 months ago with 24k miles and it just came with hardtop pwr windows locks and no nav

I'd go for the 08. That's a great price as well! I doubt the 12's will be significantly different....would cost a lot more but your better off buying the 08 and putting the rest of your budget into whatever you want to do with the jeep.

Default New or used?

If you are going to modify it at all, go for the used because you warranty isn't going to be worth hill of beans, plus you won't feel so bad when you scratch it. Good luck!

Go for used. You take less of a depreciation hit and have more mod money. Heck, for the price of a '12, you could get the '08 and drop a Hemi in it and be the envy of this whole forum.

Same here. I got a used (2007 Sahara) because I wanted to be free o mod whatever I wanted without bothering about warranty. Also, most bugs would be already fixed whereas in a new car you never know.

Only difference is that I wanted black so I just waited until the model I wanted showed up in a Chrysler dealer.

It's very good to buy a car that you know the origin, so this seems to be a good deal if you like the color. :-)

Aren't the 2012's coming with a bigger motor? If so, I would wait till they come out.
