If quality wheel spacers are thought to be as safe as wheels having built-in backspacing, why then do many- if not most big name tire retailers- refuse to mount wheels against back spacers? For instance, Belle Tire, Sears, Discount Tire, just to name a few.

My tire shop said no, but when I showed them what I really had (Spydertrax) they mounted them up with no issues. They were expecting to see the cheap ones from Pep boys that only exposes a small amount of the original studs once installed. The Spydertrax have completly new studs on them.

Not 100% positive but I believe some states it is illeagle to use spacers...at least that's what Ive been told in MA. But if that is true, that would be one major reason why tire places won't put them on..

From my experience taking a moded jeep to a chain service store only leads to headaches.
But yeah, wheel spacers throughout their 50 year history have been mostly garbage. However I love my spidertrax.

I have not had any problems at the chain stores with my spidertrax spacers. I have even passed the safety inspections with them on. I had them installed then passed inspection.
