I've always wanted to cut my fenders, but didn't want it to be too flimsy--or to look like every other cut fender. I have factory painted flares, so i wasn't keen on cutting those up, so I bought some used stock/textured flares from a guy on Craigslist. My 16 yr old son and I went to cutting them, and instead of just leaving the edge cut or putting door trim on it, we actually heated them up and rolled them underneath. We cut some notches at the transitional bends from horizontal to the slant downward.
Once we shaped them the way we wanted, we sanded the fenders to remove as much of the texture as possible; cleaned with acetone; then put several layers of primer down. From there, we rattle-canned with Mopar black paint, and laid several thin coats--sanding with 400 grit sandpaper after each. Lastly, we laid (4) coats of clear gloss, and they turned out pretty nice.
1st pic is of the "before" with stock painted flares.
2nd pic is of the "after" with our home-painted cut and rolled flares.

I'm waiting until it gets in the 90's to put mine on. I enjoy the true toplessness of spring and summer until I start getting cooked. You know, when you're driving topless on the interstate and you can't breathe?
