Just got my new spare tire (the other 4 are coming next week); Open Country AT/2 P265/70R17. Before I had the original 255/75R17 so those are a bit smaller but since its my daily driver and don't offroad... Do those really look smaller or some people just find something to say?
Looks good

Can not see any differerence on Your photos. My spare looks bigger, because it is thicker.
My take. I was affraid that my 265/70/17 would look smaller than my stock 255/70/18, but I was affraid to go with the 285 size because I did not want to lift my wrangler.
With my slighly lower tyre (265/70/17) my Wrangler looks better due to more agressive thread pattern and that my tyre goes slighly past the fenders (wider stance), because I have Black Rock Yuma rims with 4.5 in back spacing.
And the spare wheel looks better because it is thicker.
Before, stock
After
265/70/17 to the left, stock 255 to the right.
