Looks like you weaved uphill. That's the "proper" way to do it, but for future reference for something that thin you could have done a tiny uphill weld and then re-passed it downhill to smooth it out... works with MIG, not so much for stick (can be done, just trickier). But they look more than beefy enough for some gussets!

It can be done with stick, but I would not do it.
Guess it is too late to throw in my vote for 7018 hunh?

You can use a mig wilder and it will work just fine. You do not have to use an Arc Welder. As long as you are getting good penetration and you are very careful about the heat around the Knuckle you will be fine. Crap, guess I should have looked at the date before posting..lol

You can use a MIG...we do it all the time.

I have a 110v mig but no gas will that still do the job

If your using 6010 you better know what your doing, this rod will burn through anything even itself. Burn a few on something of the same thickness before destroying your gusset's.

7018 will make it pretty that for sure.
