They're pretty thin for 6010. But you do need an all-position rod.... and 6010 does fit the bill there... maybe go 1/16th rod, and run on the colder side or you might just blow right through. If you can get your hands on a MIG that's what EVO told me is ideal. Stick and TIG are really hot processes. And you should definitely NOT go gas welding, that's WAY WAY too hot, you'll burn all the grease out and warp the axle tubes to hell.

I talked to Mel at the OC suds and grub, and told him I used my 110V arc welder he said it would not be a problem because there is so much welding surface, you really can not go wrong. I used a 1/16th rod and my welds are not pretty, but it appears to have way more than enough welding surface, so I am not worried about it. I always took welding for granted growing up, but I have alot of respect for a good welder since I have been messing around. Good thingg I am not welding the seams on the next Nuke powered carrier!

Wouldn't a 6010 go too deep? Why not a 7018 or 6013 for a little less penetration? I was thinking you didn't want to penetrate all the way through the axle tube - that not right on those gussets?
