tucked my jk's rear bumper
okay guys, i haven't been real active lately, some of you outside of the high schoolers thread may not even know me. but anyways ive been building ever since i sort of left, and i just thought id share tucking my rear bumper. there aren't too many pictures but it should give a good idea. my bumper is from a custom shop in reading, pennsylvania, so it will not be bumper specific. basically,
1) first things first was to remove the old bumper, simple
2) i simply used a piece of think metal wire to get the shape of the body outline, i then cut that shape out of the rear bumper so it would only stick out about 2", i haven't gotten an exact measurement yet. we used a plasma cutter for this step.
3)using a piece of wire in the shape of the bumpers inside, i marked the frame rails, then again using the plasma cutter cut out the cross member and got the correct angle on the frame rails.
4) where i cut ended up being right behind the rear body mounts, so we cut out some 3/16" triangles and welded them in for some support.
5) next was simply drilling new holes in the bumper and bolting it back onto the frame rails, it needs repainted from the heat of cutting, so when doing that it will be bolted along with being partially welded on. the piece of the bumper cut off the top is about as wide as the frame rails, i will most likely weld this on somewhere for protection/ support. heres some pics. these may help a little more. also need to trim down the tire carrier/rear stinger so itll fit again.
